Having a CSCS card show’s that you have an excellent knowledge of health and safety but also be familiar with the constructions skills template which is a valuable asset both on and off the work site. Having a CSCS card shows not just co-workers but also employers that you are familiar with the many safety aspects of the work site. This could help you find work as you are more likely to be hired by someone as you can show them that you have the cscs card. It is essential that you understand the CSCS card renewal process so we will take you through it one step at a time.
How to Renew your CSCS – The Process
One thing to remember is that most of the cscs cards you can get are only valid for up to 5 years, after this, you will, of course, have to renew it. One thing to remember is that when it comes to renewing your card, you must do it within six months priors to it expiring or and up to 6 months after that date, it should not be too hard to do this as booking an appointment over the phone or online is a very simple process.
Card Renewal Steps
When you are applying for your renewal it is the same process as when you first applied for your cscs card; you must first site and pass the CITB health, safety and environment test. As before this test, lasts 45 minutes and you will have to answer 50 multiple choice questions in that time. This is consisting of 12 behavioural case study type questions; this is asking you how you would act if certain things happened on the work site. There will also be 38 multiple choice questions that will be testing your knowledge of health and safety on the work site.
After you have passed the Health and Safety test, you can then call the CSCS helpline on 0344 9944 777 to renew. They will be able to help you choose the right card type that you will need for your position/ job type but also help you with any extra training you might need. Be sure to have a payment card ready to pay with for your renewal. Other things you will need to provide over the phone are:
- Details for your current employment, this will include the company name, address and any other contact information for that company.
- A standard password photo will be needed so they can add this to your new card; some may ask that the photo is signed on the back.
After all the details and information has been confirmed you should receive your card within 10 working days.
If you already know which one of the CSCS card you need they you can download an online form to apply for your new card and return it to the cscs office in your local area. But this process will normally take up to 20 days to be approved and sent back in the post to your home or work address.
It is important to remember that certain areas of the UK will have different requirements for you to be able to renew your cscs card. One example of this is Ireland, to get your card renewed you will also need to have a FAS Safe Pass card. If you would like to be completely sure what you need to do and what you will need to have it would be a good idea to phone a representative or visit www.cscs.uk.com to make sure you have everything you need.
If you understand the health and safety regulations of the job site, you should display this. These cards are a perfect way to show to co-workers and employers that you have the knowledge base and skills to help guarantee the well-being of themselves and others.
